KoMo FlocMan Oat/Grain Electric Flaker
KoMo's FlocMan Grain Flaker has all the qualities needed for a solid, long-term relationship. It's peacefully quiet, easy to maintain, and perfectly reliable—to say nothing of its good looks!
The FlocMan delivers 3.5 ounces of deliciously fresh grain flakes per minute, and flake thickness is adjustable from .3mm to .65mm. It's suitable for all types of grain except corn, as well as crushing oil seeds such as poppy, and spices.
Oats are a naturally soft grain and more of our customers roll oats than any other grain in their FlocMan—but many other grains including wheat, rye, barley and millet can be flaked too, with a little preparation. These grains are normally dry and hard. To soften them, hold them under running water briefly in a strainer. Then spread the grains on a cloth or towel to let them dry over night or for at least 3-4 hours. This time will vary depending on the grain used, but a little experimentation will help optimize the process. The softened grain will flatten nicely into flakes, similar to commercially available rolled oats. At the same time this contact with water starts an enzymatic process which makes it easier for your metabolism to assimilate the minerals in the grain.
Flaking couldn't be easier with the FlocMan. The crushing unit, with its tapered stainless steel rollers, is mounted in a gracefully sculpted housing of solid beechwood. Disassembly for brushing off the rollers takes less than ten seconds and requires no tools. Included with the flaker is a lovely handmade ceramic bowl.

I purchased the electric flaker because it allows for adjustments to the thickness of the flakes produced. I have only used it for oat groats so far, but it can be used to flake other grains and seeds. The flaked oats are incredible. They taste completely different from commercially produced flaked oats. Fresh flakes retain natural oils so they have a very satisfying nutty taste that enables them to be eaten raw. No overnight soaking required for these fresh gems. Fresh raw flakes also have so many more nutrients than commercially produced flakes which lose nutrients to processing (steaming) and oxidation that begins immediately upon flaking. I plan to try some mixed grain porridge or oatmeal, but haven't done so yet because I can't stop eating the muesli that I have been making daily since I purchased my flaker. My only regret is that I didn't purchase it sooner. I also must mention that Pleasant Hill Grain is one of the best companies with whom I have done business. I purchased my flaker late on a Thursday afternoon and it was on my doorstep Saturday morning. Now that is customer service!2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. Did you?
I ordered the KoMo FlocMan electric flaker mill from Pleasant Hill Grain in 2012, and use it generally six days a week. I use it to flake Einkorn wheat for breakfast after its been softened by running water over it in a strainer, laying on a linen towel, folding towel over Einkorn wheat overnight. I also use it to flake oats occasionally. I've had one issue with it so far, think I was flaking Einkorn wheat at the time, and the plastic fitting on the main shaft stripped, so Pleasant Hill Grain sent me a replacement part plus some spares at no charge. There may have been a small stone in the grain that causes it to strip, I don't know, but I have had no issues since. So far I like this great tool.2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.
