We recommend ordering an accessory mesh basket-liner bag to use with the press. Traditionally, disposable cheesecloth is used to keep finer fruit pulps from squirting out between the basket slats under high pressure, but our mesh bags are reusable and much more convenient.

The wood parts of the Harvest Bounty press arrive pre-sealed. For future maintenance, we have a good coating available below.

It's important to keep the acme forcing screw well lubricated with food safe grease; this greatly reduces wear and turning effort, and dramatically increases maximum pressure and juice yield.

As with any press, to get good juice yield from apples you need to pulp them first. Proper pulping lets you get three to four times as much juice from the apples, compared to pressing the fruit whole. Our Maximizer™ apple grinder and Electric Apple Grinder are all excellent choices.

We offer a wide selection of apple presses... Click to see our category page of all apple cider presses!

  • A great press for the money!
    By on - Verified Buyer
The press works as expected. The only two drawbacks are:
    1. The tripod design is unstable: when opening the yoke the whole thing tips over.
    2. The stainless "basket" is not a basket, just a cylinder. It make is hard to remove the pulp.
It would be nice to have a basket with a handle.
    Moderator:
Eddy, we recommend using the holes in each of the feet to fasten the press down. That both prevents tipping and keeps the whole press from rotating as you turn the screw down (and back up again.) One option we've found handy is to screw the press down to a half sheet of plywood or chip board; if you go that route, be sure the board is large enough for the operator to stand on, so their weight on the board keeps the press from both tipping and rotating. About the "basket", that's traditionally the name used for the (traditionally) wood-slat cages surrounding the fruit, which, historically, don't have bottoms. We've tested stainless baskets with a bottom and found that they then rotate with the screw, which isn't really desirable. Thanks for the 5 star review and have fun!

  • Get the mesh bag
    By on - Verified Buyer
Get the mesh bag and fold it over on itself when pressing the apple mush. I did not do this the first few pressing I made. Apple mush shot up from the press covering me in apple mush. Once was not enough. I had to repeat the apple baptism three times before I realized what to do. Fold the mesh bag over on itself. The first step: get the mesh bag. Cleaning the mesh bag requires lots of effort but is well worth the trouble. Cider is delicious.

The mesh bag can be thrown into a clothes washing machine after pressing for effortless cleanup. Thanks for your review, Frank.

  • Excellent Apple Cider Press
    By on - Verified Buyer
High quality, heavy-duty well built cider press. Very easy to use. Just pick up a small can of food-grade stain and coat the wooden basket with it, let it dry for a couple days. Works excellent if you use an apple grinder first. then put the apple pulp into the press. You'll get 3-4 times more cider than if you just chop the apples into small pieces. Should be able to get a 2 gallon bucket full of cider out of each full basket of apple grindings (we got the larger basket on our press, and always got ~2 gallons per basket full). No need for those expensive $700-800+ presses, this one does the exact same thing... you just need to buy the apple grinder separately (we clamped ours to a picnic table then filled up 5 gallon buckets with apple grindings, then dumped those into the press). Kids love making cider and squishing the apples. We freeze it in quart ziplock freezer bags then thaw one out when we want to drink one. On the apple grinder... it works best if you chop em in half then throw em in the grinder... and crank it over a few turns then backwards a turn, then forwards again a few turns... that keeps it from getting clogged up. When all said and done, just spray the press and grinder really well with a hose then let it dry off before storage for next use or next year. We made 15-20 gallons of fresh cider with ease last fall from old apple trees on the old farm property.

Our wood baskets do come presealed now, but periodic maintenance is certainly in order. It's crucial to keep the forcing screw lubed with food grade grease too, both for the (dramatic) reduction of turning effort and for wear and rust prevention. Also it's worth noting that juice yields vary widely depending on the juiciness of the apples being used. Thanks for your review Nicholas, lots of good tips!

  • Old World New Cider
    By on - Verified Buyer
My dad and grandfather built a wooden cider press in the early 1900's. Dad sold the old one for $50.00 without telling us! Imagine how I felt when this family heirloom was gone. So, I found this new version as a birthday present for my husband, (and me). We are delighted and can't wait to get our first batch of cider going. We are thrilled to be able to bring back this family practice and show our granddaughters and my students how cider is made. Thank you for this beautiful rendition of our old traditional one. • It's a dandy!
    By on - Verified Buyer
The cider press we originally ordered was out of stock. We were contacted immediately and a comparable press was substituted. The customer service was great and the delivery prompt. So far we've pressed 30 gallons with Red and Yellow Delicious, Honey Crisp and a mystery apple from a tree we planted over 20 years ago. It tastes so fresh and sweet. We plan to use this for years to come.

  • Impressive Press
    By on - Verified Buyer
I've used this product once since setting it up and I'm very pleased with the Harvest Bounty press so far. It's built to last! I got the stainless steel cylinder and use it with a mesh bag and it performed very well. Clean up is very easy. I got the hand-crank grinder as well, and find that it likes the apples to be cut in half to process them well (whole apples get hung up easily) but that is not a problem. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Jud, we're guessing that your apples are pretty crisp. Letting them ripen a bit more, or letting them sit for a couple of weeks after picking, will enhance feeding with the grinder. Thanks for your review!

The Harvest Bounty press is easy to set up and easy to clean. Effortless pressing and lots of fun. The only hard part is getting the apples off the trees!

  • Solidly built
    By on - Verified Buyer
This press worked great for an abundant apple crop. If the apples are run through a food processor or masher before pressing, we would get 2-3 gallons of cider per pressing. We plan to use the bolts to attach it to a sturdier base - it ships with a small plywood base. Smooth working, easy to clean. Don't forget to order reusable mesh bags.
    Moderator:

The wood base that our presses arrive bolted-to is there for protection of the press during shipping. We do recommend using the holes in the press feet to fasten the press down securely during use. Presses can be bolted to a deck or pinned to the ground (heavy round tent pegs work well). Another option is fastening the press to a sheet of plywood large enough for the screw operator to stand on, which will prevent unwanted rotation of the whole press when the forcing screw is being turned. Thanks for your review Kathryn, and for your business. Happy pressing!
